Web Design - a vital tool for contemporary communication

We are principally landscape architects rather than website designers. However, just as we have to be competent with graphic design and presentation, neither can we ignore the fact that websites are simply the best way to communicate and interact with large numbers of people.

We believe in websites which are as clear and simple to navigate as possible and are inclusive and easy to use. We hope that this site, developed in-house, is a good example - comments welcome!

We have created web forms to obtain information and feedback from businesses, local authorities and communities; and also entire websites which effectively communicate our clients' projects.

What were revolutionary techniques only a few years ago have become ubiquitous, even household names - for example the Flash video engine which drives YouTube. Flash is excellent for delivery of various forms of media within websites, and you will see many examples within this site, for example:-

Feel free to contact us if you want to discuss website development or contemporary methods of design and change communication.

Project examples:

  • Tansterne web site
    Tansterne web site
Tansterne Straw-Burning Power Station - web site
Our client wanted to distribute information about his project as widely as possible - he is a local farmer and wanted facts, not misinformation. After discussing a few possibilities, we agreed on, produced and hosted a website for him: www.gb-bio.com. You may detect a hint of evangelism in the narrative style - guilty!
  • Victoria Dock Website
    Victoria Dock Website
Victoria Dock Planning & Contract Website
When designing the Victoria Dock Heritage Trail, we needed to consult with several Council departments including the planning authority. We decided to put the full range of proposals drawings (maps and board designs) on a dedicated part of our website, which allowed easy access to the documents and allowed the client Community group to review the plans at their leisure. When we moved on to the implementation stage, we placed all the tender documents in a secure download location and, as a result, obtained a fast tender turnaround.
  • EA Web Survey
    EA Web Survey Form
    Environment Agency Web Survey Form
The Environment Agency, and its partners, Natural England and English Heritage, wanted to review the effectiveness of a joint publication, prior to considering whether to update it. We provided a dedicated web survey form for the local authority consultees, based on a questionnaire designed by our colleagues, The Planning Cooperative. We compiled the resulting responses for analysis by the Planning Cooperative and the client.
  • Somerset WAVE
    Somerset WAVE website
    Somerset WAVE Website
This work-in-progress website (see Panoramas page) will form the delivery method for an exciting set of panoramas and photomontages. The project is designed to provoke debate on the effects of Climate Change in Somerset, the UK and Europe.
