We were appointed in 2005 to help design and manage the installation of a heritage trail on Victoria Dock in Hull. Whilst the text had been written by our community group client, we developed the graphic design and improved readability, mainly by reducing the word-count!
Various manufacturers were considered for the project, with the best price/product combination coming from local street-furniture designers, Urban Elements. UE suggested a rather lovely vitreous enamel finish for the board, with aluminium mounts and legs. This combination is strong, durable and well-suited to the maritime setting.

3D drawings clearly explained the design intention to planners, consultees, contractor and clients
We created a dedicated project website where Planning consultees could download all the design drawings in PDF or JPG format. Tendering for the installation contract was carried out by uploading tender documents in PDF and Excel (for the Bills of Quantities) formats. This helped to achieve a fast tender turn-around.
One of the consultees, Humber Archaeology, kindly suggested that the trail 'sets the standard' for heritage information in Hull.
 Trail Masterplan
The site masterplan and indicative details were submitted for planning approval in the summer, the scheme has been installed in the last few months, and it was opened by none other than the Chuckle Brothers on 4th December 2006.

The Trail has proved so popular...

....that children have had to be dragged away from it :)

Our first choice for the opening ceremony might have been the Queen, but the Chuckle Brothers were in town for the panto. They were great fun... and the kids loved them!
